Vir Vani - Songs Of Sanyasi Of Swami Vivekananda In English

If you have read Gyan Yoga of Swami Vivekananda in Bengali, then you have noticed a book with 13 short poetries named 'Vir Vani' have been included in that book. In this post, you will get those 13 poetries of Vir Vani (Songs Of Sanyasi) in English!

01
Wake up the note! the song that had its birth
Far off, where worldly taint could never reach,
In mountain caves and glades of forest deep,
Whose calm no sigh for lust or wealth or fame
Could ever dare to break; where rolled the stream
Of knowledge, truth, and bliss that follows both.
Sing high that note, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

02
Strike off thy fetters! Bonds that bind thee down,
Of shining gold, or darker, baser ore;
Love, hate—good, bad—and all the dual throng,
Know, slave is slave, caressed or whipped, not free;
For fetters, though of gold, are not less strong to bind;
Then off with them, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

03
Let darkness go; the will-o’-the-wisp that leads
With blinking light to pile more gloom on gloom.
This thirst for life, for ever quench; it drags
From birth to death, and death to birth, the soul.
He conquers all who conquers self. Know this
And never yield, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

04
"Who sows must reap," they say, "and cause must bring
The sure effect; good, good; bad, bad; and none
Escape the law. But whoso wears a form
Must wear the chain." Too true; but far beyond
Both name and form is Atman, ever free.
Know thou art That, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om! "

05
They know not truth who dream such vacant dreams
As father, mother, children, wife, and friend.
The sexless Self! whose father He? whose child?
Whose friend, whose foe is He who is but One?
The Self is all in all, none else exists;
And thou art That, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

06
There is but One—The Free—The Knower—Self!
Without a name, without a form or stain.
In Him is Maya dreaming all this dream.
The witness, He appears as nature, soul.
Know thou art That, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

07
Where seekest thou? That freedom, friend, this world
Nor that can give. In books and temples vain
Thy search. Thine only is the hand that holds
The rope that drags thee on. Then cease lament,
Let go thy hold, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

08
Say, "Peace to all: From me no danger be
To aught that lives. In those that dwell on high.
In those that lowly creep, I am the Self in all!
All life both here and there, do I renounce,
All heavens and earths and hells, all hopes and fears."
Thus cut thy bonds, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

09
Heed then no more how body lives or goes,
Its task is done. Let Karma float it down;
Let one put garlands on, another kick
This frame; say naught. No praise or blame can be
Where praiser praised, and blamer blamed are one.
Thus be thou calm, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

10
Truth never comes where lust and fame and greed
Of gain reside. No man who thinks of woman
As his wife can ever perfect be;
Nor he who owns the least of things, nor he
Whom anger chains, can ever pass thro’ Maya’s gates.
So, give these up, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

11
Have thou no home. What home can hold thee, friend?
The sky thy roof, the grass thy bed; and food
What chance may bring, well cooked or ill, judge not.
No food or drink can taint that noble Self
Which knows Itself. Like rolling river free
Thou ever be, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

12
Few only know the truth. The rest will hate
And laugh at thee, great one; but pay no heed.
Go thou, the free, from place to place, and help
Them out of darkness, Maya’s veil. Without
The fear of pain or search for pleasure, go
Beyond them both, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

13
Thus, day by day, till Karma’s powers spent
Release the soul for ever. No more is birth,
Nor I, nor thou, nor God, nor man. The "I"
Has All become, the All is "I" and Bliss.
Know thou art That, Sannyasin bold! Say—
"Om Tat Sat, Om!"

Wikipedia Is Too Fast - Mamata Banerjee Already Chief Minister?

We know Wikipedia is the biggest and the best online encyclopedia edited and maintained by volunteers all over the world! But, do you want to see how fast they work- here is an example? The counting of votes of Assembly Election 2011 was finished in the afternoon of May 13, 2011 and it became clear that Trinamool Congress and Congress alliance is going to rule West Bengal this time! Note, Mamata Banerjee is not the chief Minister of West Bengal still. I checked the Wikipedia article on Mamata Banerjee on 14th May, 2.50 PM and found there Mamata Banerjee is already declared as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Here is the screenshot! (Hope you will not be able to see the screenshot properly here. so press to see the image in a new tab!)

Undoubtedly Mamata Banerjee is our Chief Minister now! But, I am talking about Wikipedia editors here. They are too fast - is not it? Anyway, you can read the full Wikipedia Article on Mamata Banerjee here!

An Indian Girl's Tweets To Barack Obama!

An Indian Girl ( I have talked with her few times), I have just saw in Twitter Account that she has tweeted to Barack Obama, US President. Well, this girl writes about herself in her Twitter profile's introduction- "I dream to see my nation stronger in idealism than it used to be in remote past and pray that the whole world can be unified by the perpetual religion of Truth". And I can guarantee she is a good and talented girl! But, her this Tweet was a surprise to me. Though she posted it in April, I just noticed it, because I am not following her in Twitter! Have a look at her Tweet to Barack Obama-

Sourav Ganguly Scores A Winning 32 For Pune Warriors! Dada - Dada - Dada! A Fan's Reaction!

Sourav Ganguly, our most beloved Dada has just scored a match winning 32 runs (3 x4, 1 x6, 100.00 SR)  for Pune Warriors against Deccan Chargers! Sourav is back in form! Each and everyone neglected Sourav in this IPL. The legend of Indian Cricket was clearly insulted by the Franchisees this year. An icon cricketer of last three IPL sessions just was not called/selected by ANY IPL Franchisee this year!
Finally at the end of the IPL, when Ashish Nehera injured, Sourav was selected as an alternative (lol!) by Pune Warriors for 5 matches only!
And Dada is back in form!  NO one could expect that Dada will prove him once again! But, Dada has always some surprises for you! Man can loose, he can NOT be destroyed! Dada can loose, but he can NOT be destroyed!
Deccan Chargers scored 136/8, so Pune Warriors' target was 137. They reached the target on 18.2 overs loosing 4 wickets only!
I am highly delighted to see Dada back in form!
Now, where are you - IPL diplomats? Where are you  - Sourav Ganguly Criticizers - please come with your age-performance calculator! If you have any shame left (or you ever had any), you should apologize at once to Sourav Ganguly!

And we the Dada's fans will continue roaring- Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada Dada

Aamar Bhitoro Bahire Ontore Ontore - Lyrics, MP3 and Video

Aamar Bhitoro Bahire, Ontore Ontore song was written by Bengali poet Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah Imam.(1956-1992). Poet Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah was the husband of writer Taslima Nasrin. He died as a result of drug abuse. some people consider the song as a suicide note to Taslima Nasrin.

Here  is the lyrics of the song "Aamar Bjitoro Bahire....".

Aamar Bhitor Bahire Ontore Ontore
Achho Tumi Hridoy Jure
Dheke Rakhe Jemon Kusum
Paprir Abdale Phosoler Ghum
Temni Tomar Nibir Chola
Moromer Mul Poth Dhore
Pushe Rakhe Jemon Jhinuk
Kholosher Aborone Muktor Sukh
Temni Tomar Gobhir Chnoya
Bhitorer Nil Bondore
Bhalo Achhi, Bhalo Theko
Akasher Thikanay Chithi Likhi
Dio Tomar Mala Khani
Baul Er Ei Mon Ta Re

Quote Of Swami Vivekananda- Never Think You Are Weak

Swami Vivekananda said- “Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin ? to say that you are weak, or others are weak."
Here is an image representation-

The Power Of The Mind - Swami Vivekananda's Speech!

Swami Vivekananda delivered this speech "The Power Of The Mind" on January 8th, 1900 at Los Angeles, California. He was almost 37 years old then (Swami Ji was born on January 12, 1863). i am quoting a portion from Swami Vivekananda's that speech here, though i suggest to read the full text here (Click on "The Power Of The Mind" in the content list in left sidebar!)

"All over the world there has been the belief in the supernatural throughout the ages. All of us have heard of extraordinary happenings, and many of us have had some personal experience of them. I would rather introduce the subject by telling you certain facts which have come within my own experience. I once heard of a man who, if any one went to him with questions in his mind, would answer them immediately; and I was also informed that he foretold events. I was curious and went to see him with a few friends. We each had something in our minds to ask, and, to avoid mistakes, we wrote down our questions and put them in our pockets. As soon as the man saw one of us, he repeated our questions and gave the answers to them. Then he wrote something on paper, which he folded up, asked me to sign on the back, and said, "Don't look at it; put it in your pocket and keep it there till I ask for it again." And so on to each one of us. He next told us about some events that would happen to us in the future. Then he said, "Now, think of a word or a sentence, from any language you like." I thought of a long sentence from Sanskrit, a language of which he was entirely ignorant. "Now, take out the paper from your pocket," he said. The Sanskrit sentence was written there! He had written it an hour before with the remark, "In confirmation of what I have written, this man will think of this sentence." It was correct. Another of us who had been given a similar paper which he had signed and placed in his pocket, was also asked to think of a sentence. He thought of a sentence in Arabic, which it was still less possible for the man to know; it was some passage from the Koran. And my friend found this written down on the paper.
Another of us was a physician. He thought of a sentence from a German medical book. It was written on his paper.
Several days later I went to this man again, thinking possibly I had been deluded somehow before. I took other friends, and on this occasion also he came out wonderfully triumphant.
Another time I was in the city of Hyderabad in India, and I was told of a Brâhmin there who could produce numbers of things from where, nobody knew. This man was in business there; he was a respectable gentleman. And I asked him to show me his tricks. It so happened that this man had a fever, and in India there is a general belief that if a holy man puts his hand on a sick man he would be well. This Brahmin came to me and said, "Sir, put your hand on my head, so that my fever may be cured." I said, "Very good; but you show me your tricks." He promised. I put my hand on his head as desired, and later he came to fulfil his promise. He had only a strip of cloth about his loins, we took off everything else from him. I had a blanket which I gave him to wrap round himself, because it was cold, and made him sit in a corner. Twenty-five pairs of eyes were looking at him. And he said, "Now, look, write down anything you want." We all wrote down names of fruits that never grew in that country, bunches of grapes, oranges, and so on. And we gave him those bits of paper. And there came from under his blanket, bushels of grapes, oranges, and so forth, so much that if all that fruit was weighed, it would have been twice as heavy as the man. He asked us to eat the fruit. Some of us objected, thinking it was hypnotism; but the man began eating himself — so we all ate. It was all right.

Ramayana's First Sloka - Ma Nishada Pratistham

This sloka is regarded as Ramayana's First Sloka. One day Valmiki was travelling beside Ganga and He suddenly heard sweet chirping of birds. Valmiki moved towards the sound and discovered that two Krouncha birds - male and female were romancing (having physical romance). That was a very beautiful scene. Valmiki felt delighted, He kept watching the birds standing there. The two male and female birds were completely absorbed and lost in each other.
Suddenly Valmiki heard a loud cry of pain and noticed the male bird fell on the ground. Thick red blood came out of its chest. Valmiki understood that the male bird has been shot. Yes, actually it was. A hunter threw an arrow towards the bird. The hunter soon came there to collect the dead body of the bird.
But, Valmiki was very much sad and angry. He said to that hunter, "Not only human being, but, even animal couples should not be hurt/disturbed when they are romancing being Kaammohitam. You have done a sin by doing it etc"
Actually, Valmiki said this in Sanskrit. And that is the first Sloka of the oldest epic of India- Ramayana!
The sloka is-
Maa Nishada Pratistham Tvamagamahsāsvati Samaa
Yat Kraunchamithunaadekam Avadhi Kaamamohitam

Later Lord Bramha came to him (Valmiki) and requested Him to write Ramayana. But, actually this was the first Sloka of Ramayana!

Finally Sourav Ganguly Will Play For Pune In IPL-4!

Finally it is a relief of all Sourav Ganguly (Dada) fans. Sourav will play for Pune Warriors under the captaincy of Ashish Nehera. Sourav is going to replace injured left arm bowler Ashish Nehera. (Yes, i know, it sounds bad that a maestro like Sourav is going replace a player like Ahsish Nehera who seems to be out of the tournament for injuries, but there is nothing to do!). But, it is also true that Sourav Ganguly has got another chance to prove himself. From the time of Greg Chappel's coaching Sourav has fought back many times, and now in Cricket world he is almost a symbol of fighting person, who never gives up. So, now it is to see how he proves himself in this IPL session!
In this IPL session, Pune Warriors are not playing well! Pune has lost 6 matches out of 8 so far. So, they are in a bad situation. They need to win all the remaining 6 matches to qualify for Semis.
Pune Warriors is owned by Sahara.
You will get the team of Pune Warriors here.
i am personally very happy! Now, who cares for Knight Riders? i being a Calcuttian, now support Pune Warriors. Go Pune Warriors Go! Let's cheer- DADA! DADA!

God Is Infinite - How?

Hindu people (Vedanta) and many other religion tells us that God is infinite. But, the question is "how"?
Here is an attempt to prove it-
In Upanishad Shanti Path it has been written-
"... Purnashya Purnamadaya Puranam Eb Abasishyate.."
Here, it is said, if we subtract "Purna" or "Brahma" or "God" from "Purna" or "Bramha" or "God", the same thing(!) "Purna" or "Brahma" or "God" remains.
Mathematical representation of the sloka (verse)
Purna-Purna=Purna
OR,
Bramha-Bramha=Bramha
OR,
God-God=God

Now, let's replace Purna/Bramha/God with x.
So the calculation now looks like-
x-x=x
We, know x-x=0(zero), we have to find the value of x when x-x=x
For two values of x, x-x=x is possible. First value is of course 0 (zero), as (0-0)=0 and another value of x which tend to satisfy the condition x-x=x is infinity (∝). Here one should note, infinity can neither be counted nor *imagined*. Ya, infinity can not be imagined by human brain! We can try to conceptualize infinity in two different ways- i) we can conceptualize a number without a certain value assigned to it. It is like knowing a person without knowing/calling his name. But, you can call it a variable, but, not infinity.
Another think we can do is we can put dots to describe infinity like the infinity is 999999........., but that is not infinity too. The value of infinity is incomplete here. You will say, it can't be completed anyhow! Yes, that's what i am saying too! You can't imagine infinity!
And as infinity can not be imagined, infinity-infinity should be infinity.
Now coming back to the main point-
So, the value of Purna/Bramha/God may be two, either it is 0 (zero) ELSE it is infinity! Generally, the second value is taken. So, Bramha or Purna or God is infinity. (Proved)
Now, this is is a subject of another study that what is the EXACT relation between Zero and infinity!

Human senses Take At Least 5 Tera Bytes Of Information Everyday

i have recently found a wonderful and amazing information. i have a habit to read articles randomly from Wikipedia. In a Wikipedia article, i have read today that- "The senses (i.e Human Senses) take in billions of bits of information every second"
A rough calculation. though, in Wikipedia article, it is mentioned "Billions", let's consider it is 1 Billion bits of information/second.
Now 1 Billion bits = 125000000 Bytes= .... ..... = 0.11642 Giga Bytes.
So, 0.11642 Giga Bytes of information is collected or taken by human senses every second.

So, a general human brain takes more than "at least" 5 Terra Byte of information from outside everyday [Considering 16 hours=active part of a day].

BUT,
unfortunately, though billion bits of information is taken by human senses every second, but, only around 40 bits are processed by human brain every second.
i just wish if human brain could process all those 5 Terra Byte information every day...... LOL!

Om Tat Sat Om

If you have read Swami Vivekananda's "Vir Vani", then probably you have noticed that each of the thirteen poetries ends with the appeal(!)- "So say loudly, Om Tat Sat Om". In this pots, ia m going to discuss on the phrase "Om Tat Sat Om".
Om Tat Sat Om or Om Tat sat is a Sanskrit Mantra which is considered to be a divine mantra for its very deep meaning.
The word "Om" means, "The Supreme Being". In Patanjali's Yoga Shastra, it is written "Tashya Bachaka Pranava", that means, The God is described/called/depicted by "Pranava", and "Pranava" is "Om. Here it needs to be mentioned that, Om is mainly related to Vedanta. And the main pronciple of Vedanta is unitarian, i.e. one God and He is covered all over the universe. In Gita, it is told, the whole universe (regardless of time) is the body of that "One" God! So, "Om" the word represents that One omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God!
"Tat" is a pronoun in Sanskrit. 'Tat' means, 'That'.
"Sat" means, 'true' or 'truth'. Here, the definition of truth  according to Vedantist beliefs should be discussed. Truth, according to Vedanta is another name of God, which does not change from time to time or from place to place. We know, the word the root word of Vedas is "Vid" which means, knowledge. And knowledge is that which helps someone to progress mentally or spiritually or acquire mental or spiritual strength. So, here, knowledge is "truth". As we are discussing here on "Om Tat sat Om" and not "Sat" or "truth" only, so, we'll mot go further here, but, one should not think the meaning of truth in general way when (s)he is studying/thinking about Om Tat Sat Om, otherwsie (s)he will not understand  the meaning of the Sloka.

So, now if we put together the meaning of the three words we just got, that becomes "The Supreme Being (God) is the Truth", more clearly, Om Tat Sat Om means "The Supreme Being" or God is the Ultimate and Only Truth.

(Primarily) everything is beautiful (truthful), but, according to Vedanta, the God or the Supreme Being is the Most Beautiful (truthful), and in the sloka, actually this very meaning has been tried to describe. Everything is tending to perfectness, no one and nothing is perfect, only God or The Supreme Being is Perfect!
Om Tat sat Om!
